Artwork: Kandinsky and Tulips

This is a photograph I took last year in my living room. The tulips were a surprise from my husband. I love the way the sunlight filters through them and the way they 'pop' against the bright colors in the Kandinsky painting in the background. This photo has been filtered in photoshop and printed on Velour Paper. I have also created a pastel piece of this image and I am currently working on an 24x30 acrylic on canvas.

  1. WOW..Rachelle, it's like a painting. The composition is very well planned. The colors worked out so well together. Was it taken at mid morning?

  2. Thanks for the comment. The picture was taken in April, I think somtime between 11:00am - 2:00pm. I ran to get my digital camera when I saw the way the light was hitting the tulips. I took several photos from different perspectives. I think this composition was the best of the bunch.

  3. Love the tulips, what a wonderful compliment to the Kandinsky! I actually have tried to paint that type of Kandinsky image a number of times, just for my own enjoyment. It is one of my favorites and I can just tell you love color as much as I do when I see your photos!

  11. Wow! your blog is looking great, Rachelle. Everything is so vibant -- and I immediately noticed the Kandinsky and how perfectly it works in this composition. I agree with Carla -- would love to see the other incarnations of this idea.

  12. Thanks to everybody for the great comments. I will post the pastel workup I did and the painting I am working on (the painting is only in the underpainting stage - so it's not too pretty yet).
